EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) Compliance
Under the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), operators and traders placing palm oil or derived products (olein, stearin, glycerol, fatty acids) onto the European market must prove that products do not originate from land deforested after December 31, 2020.
Required EUDR Due Diligence Inputs:
- Geolocation Polygons:Precise GPS coordinates of all oil palm plots of land where the fresh fruit bunches were harvested (plots > 6 hectares require polygon boundaries).
- Date of Production: Verified harvest window and mill processing timeframes.
- Legality Proof: Documentation proving compliance with local land use, labor, environmental, and human rights laws at primary origin.
RSPO Supply Chain Certification Models
RSPO IP (Identity Preserved)
100% physically traceable to a single certified plantation mill. Highest level of sustainability assurance, kept separate from all other oil throughout supply chain.
RSPO SG (Segregated)
100% certified sustainable palm oil blended from multiple RSPO-certified mills. Kept strictly separate from non-certified oil during refining and transport.
RSPO MB (Mass Balance)
Certified sustainable oil mixed with conventional palm oil in controlled refinery silos. Allows buyers to claim certified volume percentage without separate tank infrastructure.
MSPO & ISPO Standards
National mandatory sustainability frameworks in Malaysia (MSPO) and Indonesia (ISPO), enforcing NDPE (No Deforestation, No Peat, No Exploitation) guidelines.
Yield Efficiency & Land Use Comparison
Oil palm is the world's most productive vegetable oil crop. Producing an average of 3.8 tonnes of oil per hectare, it yields nearly 10 times more oil per hectare than soybean (0.4 t/ha), sunflower (0.7 t/ha), or rapeseed (0.8 t/ha). Replacing palm oil with alternative crops would require up to 9 times more land globally.
