Palm Kernel Expeller (PKE, PKC, palm kernel meal)
Protein-rich feed and fuel co-product
The fibrous solid residue remaining after oil is extracted from the palm kernel: mechanical pressing yields the higher-oil expeller, while solvent extraction yields a lower-oil meal or cake. It retains roughly 14–18% crude protein, high crude fibre and some residual oil (more so in the pressed grade).
Primarily a livestock feed ingredient, best suited to ruminants such as dairy and beef cattle whose rumen digests its high fibre; also burned as boiler fuel and applied as an organic soil amendment. High copper content limits its use in sheep.
